Choosing a Web Hosting Service for Static Site Generator Sites

Static site generators are one of the preferred ways to create web sites of various types. They are made using tools that rely on different web technologies. One of the reasons why they are preferred over traditional content management systems and other solutions is that they generate pre-built pages that are static in nature — they do not rely on traditional database servers and complex code. As a result the generated pages are in many times faster than dynamic pages as they are served every time to the recipients in the same manner. This behaviour leads to the ability to use highly optimized server settings, caching and CDN networks to create almost instant-loading web site packages.

Notice!

An open discussion is available in our forum section, where you can freely share your experience with Web Hosting services, give an opinion, provide a client report or simply ask questions about a hosting you are considering to use in the future. Find a suitable topic or create a new one under

Web Hosting Discussions and User Experience

.

Basically all static site generators utilize a main configuration script which defines the main elements of the constructed site. In it they can define the layout and using separate text files containing formatting and code instructions create the necessary pages. When all elements and assets have been configure properly the static site generator is started. It will output the complete site which can then be uploaded to the web host.

The most popular solutions are the following:

  • Jekyll — Jekyll is a simple, blog-aware, static site generator which is made in Ruby and makes use of Liquid optimized HTML templates. Jekyll automatically stitches the content and templates together, generating a website made entirely of static assets, suitable for uploading to any server. It is the solution of choice behind GitHub Pages.
  • Hugo — Hugo is a fast and modern static site generator written in Go, and designed to make website creation fun again. Hugo is designed to provide an optimal viewing experience for your website’s end users and an ideal writing experience for website authors. address
  • Hexo — Hexo is a static site generator that is primarily used for setting up blogs. It uses JavaScript code to generate the site, the underlying engine includes only the base necessities. It can be extended with plugins to extend it’s main engine.
  • Pelican — This static site generator uses Python and includes the ability to set up themes using Jinja2 templates. It can integrate with external tools, generate PDF versions of the pages, organize Atom/RSS feeds and more. It is a popular solution as it can import data from WordPress, Dotclear and RSS feeds.
  • Gutenberg — Gutenberg comes as a single executable with Sass compilation, syntax highlighting, table of contents and many other features that traditionally require setting up a dev environment or adding some JavaScript libraries to your site.

WebHosting UK Review (Security Backup, Support, Speed)

WebHosting UK was founded in 2001 and became one of the largest service providers in the UK. They now serve more than a million sites across their network of servers. They company offers a multitude of plans that can be used to initiate sites generated by static site generators.

Data Centers
WebHosting UK is focused primarily on the domestic market, meaning that most of their data centers are based in the UK. Reports from customers are that they provide a decent service.

Security
The hosting company offers all of the base necessities for setting up a secure site including SSL certificates of various types available for purchase and setup depending on their characteristics. Offsite full backups are also being made automatically, the company offers virus scans using a dedicated anti-virus engine. SPAM protection can be enabled through the administrator panel.

Speed The servers can dynamically scale according to the setup sites. The administrators can scale their sites by monitoring the resources usage and deploying the required resources on demand. In addition the company does offer enterprise-class machines that guarantee speedy site delivery.

Price

When it comes to pricing, it is definitely a bargain to choose WHUK, primarily because of the feautes offered. Such features are the core competence of this company since so many are not offered by any of their direct competitors. In addition to the unmetered bandwidth, the e-mails, databases, WHUK also provides the ability to host more than one website which is a good offer. The offers for their VPS servers start at 13 british pounts, their cloud hosting servers begin at 36 pounds and the dedicated hosting plans they offer start at 70 GBP which is a good price, considering that you get around 10TB of monthly bandwidth. However, the plans are not perfect, after all. The storage offered at their lowest plans is only 5GB, which is ok, If you are a begginer blogger or publisher, but if your website begins to grow and expand, you may experience some storage issues. Furthermore, other services, like WordPress or plugins you want to add may present a difficulty in the future because of that.

Support
When we discuss support, WHUK is UK-oriented so it offers a decent support in English only. The support is 24/7 though and it can be done:

  • Over a free phone call.
  • Via call-back service.
  • Via live chat.

In addition to this, they also have a ticketing system which offers fast solution to any issues you might be having.

iPage Hosting Security, Uptime, Back up, Support Review

iPage is one of the oldest web hosting companies dating back to 1998. It currently offers two dedicated data centers which hosts more than 1 million sites. They are esepecially suited for small and medium business clients due to the wide range of services offered at a reasonable price. They also cater to beginner users by offering easy-to-use panels, tutorials and applications that can be deployed. Static pages can take advantage of the machines and the company’s reliable record of operations.

Data Centers The company operates several data centers that are connected to major backbones such as AT&T’s, Global Crossing and Cable & Wireless’ OC48 / OC192. Unfortunately no public information is available about their exact locations.

Security
All standard security features are made part of the cloud hosting packages. The site administrators can rely that their static site generators projects will be well-protected against hackers. The package plans come with the enhanced security suites ($100) free of charge.

Speed The iPage servers include load balancing technlogy which automatically sets up the servers to deliver the generated static sites as fast as possible. When using cloud hosting services the users can also dynamically allocate the required resources without interrupting the uptime.

Uptime 99.9% uptime guarantee

Price
The low starting price ($1.99 per month in a promo savings option) is a good way to start investing in a prospective business site.

Support
Customers can get support by checking the online tutorials or chatting with the team via the ticketing system, phone or live chat.

Try to Restore Files Encrypted by

Ransomware infections and aim to encrypt your files using an encryption algorithm which may be very difficult to decrypt. This is why we have suggested several alternative methods that may help you go around direct decryption and try to restore your files. Bear in mind that these methods may not be 100% effective but may also help you a little or a lot in different situations.

Method 1: Scanning your drive’s sectors by using Data Recovery software.
Another method for restoring your files is by trying to bring back your files via data recovery software. Here are some suggestions for preferred data recovery software solutions:

Method 2: Trying Kaspersky and EmsiSoft’s decryptors.
If the first method does not work, we suggest trying to use decryptors for other ransomware viruses, in case your virus is a variant of them. The two primary developers of decryptors are Kaspersky and EmsiSoft, links to which we have provided below:

Method 3: Using Shadow Explorer

To restore your data in case you have backup set up, it is important to check for Volume Shadow Copies, if ransomware has not deleted them, in Windows using the below software:

Method 4: Finding the decryption key while the cryptovirus sends it over a network via a sniffing tool.

Another way to decrypt the files is by using a Network Sniffer to get the encryption key, while files are encrypted on your system. A Network Sniffer is a program and/or device monitoring data traveling over a network, such as its internet traffic and internet packets. If you have a sniffer set before the attack happened you might get information about the decryption key. See how-to instructions below:
