GoDaddy vs HostGator Performance Test

What would you do if you purchase a web host and find out your website is painfully slow or doesn’t respond? You’d then have to switch hosting provider, and will cost you extra money.

The hassle of getting refund from that hosting company is a whole different story.

That’s why you need to choose the right web hosting company that is reliable and trusted by many people. But it’s very difficult to choose the right host among hundreds of different hosts on the internet.

That’s why all the web hosts we review or compare go through the following performance tests:

1) GoDaddy vs HostGator – Speed Test

Speed is an important aspect to consider before choosing a web host. So we purchased two domain names and hosted each one on HostGator and GoDaddy.

We then installed WordPress with same theme and content.

With a very popular performance testing tool called Pingdom, we tested the loading time of two test sites.

HostGator loaded in 1.52 seconds to load which is a good speed.

GoDaddy was slower taking around 3.10 seconds.

WINNER: HostGator! Test site hosted on HostGator is twice as fast compared to site hosted on GoDaddy.

2) GoDaddy Vs HostGator – Response Time

Response time has a huge impact on Load Time of a website.

(Website response time is how long it takes for your web server to connect and send data packets to an end-user browser.)

We put our demo sites hosted on HostGator and GoDaddy to test between February 2018 and November 2018.

HostGator Response Time

HostGator has been our top web host in terms of response time with an average of 520ms. This has been consistent since the day we started testing.

HostGator Response Time

  • February 2018 average response time: 563ms
  • March 2018 average response time: 529ms
  • April 2018 average response time: 509ms
  • May 2018 average response time: 506ms
  • June 2018 average response time: 567ms
  • July 2018 average response time: 584ms
  • August 2018 average response time: 514ms
  • September 2018 average response time: 521ms
  • October 2018 average response time: 599ms
  • November 2018 average response time: 515ms

GoDaddy Response Time

Honestly, we were quite disappointed when we got data from our GoDaddy test site. It was way slower compared to HostGator.

Response time over 1000ms (1 Second) is not ideal as once your website is set up with content and images, it would take over 2 or 3 seconds to load completely.

GoDaddy Response Time

  • February 2018 average response time: 1463ms
  • March 2018 average response time: 1329ms
  • April 2018 average response time: 1109ms
  • May 2018 average response time: 1006ms
  • June 2018 average response time: 967ms
  • July 2018 average response time: 1184ms
  • August 2018 average response time: 1214ms
  • September 2018 average response time: 1221ms
  • October 2018 average response time: 1099ms
  • November 2018 average response time: 1115ms

WINNER: HostGator! Response time of website hosted on HostGator is just under 600ms which is impressive. GoDaddy response time is higher at over 1000 ms.

3) GoDaddy Vs HostGator – Benchmark

To confirm Pingdom didn’t give us inaccurate data above, we ran our two demo websites on GtMetrix benchmark test.

Pingdom wasn’t wrong.

HostGator is actually faster than GoDaddy!

Which is the Best Web Host? HostGator vs GoDaddy? (FINAL VERDICT)

HostGator and GoDaddy share a lot of features. GoDaddy has some of the cheapest hosting plans, but the performance isn’t as great as HostGator.

Our demo site hosted on GoDaddy didn’t perform as well as we had hoped. GoDaddy may be the best place to register a domain name, but it is not great for hosting.

Here’s our final conclusion.

HostGator is our winner!

Why HostGator is our Winner?

  1. Fastest Load Time and Response Time.
  2. Almost 100% Uptime.
